Classic endgame is a progression of Dungeons -> Heroic Dungeons -> Raid 1 -> Raid 2, etc. But at endgame Retail is play loops of daily/weekly outdoor activities + raids + dungeons that can match raid level challenges. An example is that Retail is designed for leveling to reach the current endgame takes 20-30 hours total, where as TBC Classic is 200-300 hours for a fresh character to reach the start of the endgame. Vanilla/TBC Classic were older style progressive linear grinds through stages of content. Since Wrath of the King (2008), retail has been a play the current patch theme park, with lots of catch up mechanics to help get players caught up to their friends. Classic is mostly a personal preference in game style.
Both Retail and Classic are filled with very active players who have come to expect tanks who know all the nuances to every dungeon and how to safely guide the group through quickly and efficiently. Probably more of a warning towards inexperienced tanks. They also offer a "Mythic Plus Academy" to help get people on the right track for success! Mythic Plus Friends - Great community to find casual dungeoneers and M+ enthusiasts. They also host constant events like Fast Forward to help players get KSM.
