With each of her projects, she proposes an alternative venue that asks the viewer to revisit their expectations and look at the work through a new and unique lens. Her passion for art and its dynamic storytelling is electric: she loves talking about artists and I enjoyed swapping tales about our experiences in non-traditional art curating. I met Lolita at The Wing, where she was the in-house curator and art consultant from 2017 to 2019. She is known for creating projects and exhibitions that combine work by both established and emerging artists.

Gottesman’s interpretation of space, objects and their perceived meanings seeks to readdress the way we make sense of our surroundings.Born in Paris, Lolita Cros is an independent curator living and working in New York City. The root of these works is almost anthropological, using the history and cyclical nature of New York City as inspirations for her renditions. Balancing on the threshold of two and three-dimensional perception, she challenges the depth of our collective memory, through a creative process that is both intimate and playful.

She approaches technical or specialized imagery, such as plans and diagrams, with a formalist eye– removing all functionality from her objects. Throughout her practice, Gottesman seeks to endow the familiar with a sense of ambiguity. The sculptures will confront passing viewers at eye-level, at once challenging and vaguely recognizable. The statues stand within the space, rising from their two-dimensional origins like architectural totems. Inspired by the patterns and shapes in the architectural plans of the 90 Morton development, Gottesman gives anthropomorphic form to their twists and turns, introducing sensuality through shape and materiality. Elevations is a site-specific, sculptural installation by New York-based artist Danielle Gottesman, inside the ground floor of a construction site in the West Village.
